It’s been a while since I’ve been on here but I’m ‘back’ probably for a long time but, hey, life is very different now and I’ll do my best. But, since we’re here, it’s one of the best times of the year with all sorts of great new books being announced for Q1. Here’s eight I can’t wait to read (when I get through my giant TBR pile on the floor next to me.)
LMK in the comments what book you’re most looking forward to coming out in 2025.
Happy reading!
That Book Is Dangerous!: How Moral Panic, Social Media, and the Culture Wars Are Remaking Publishing
By Adam Szetela
Publishing August 2025 from MIT Press
I love books and I love learning about publishing too. I’ve read other books that discuss how the internet completely changed print, so I can’t wait to see what unique takes this book has on modern publishing.
America, América: A New History of the New World
By Greg Grandin
Publishing April 2025 from Penguin Press
This book takes a non-Euro-centric perspective on American history, which I’m always happy to read. There’s no single history of things…
Integrated: How American Schools Failed Black Children
By Noliwe Rooks
Publishing March 2025 from Pantheon
I’m reading another education book on how integration was used as a tool to push a conservative privatization agenda (which seems to be winning). Interested to see what this adds.
No More Tears: The Dark Secrets of Johnson & Johnson
By Gardiner Harris from Random House
Publishing April 2025
I’m a huge fan of business history. The title is a tad provocative, but maybe well deserved. I don’t know anything about this company aside from the fact that they own so, so much.
When the Going Was Good: An Editor's Adventures During the Last Golden Age of Magazines
By Graydon Carter
Publishing March 2025 from Penguin Press
I just read a biography of Judith Jones and I love this perspective of history through an editors eye. Looking forward to this one!
Everything Is Tuberculosis (Signed Edition): The History and Persistence of Our Deadliest Infection
By John Greene
Publishing March 2025 from Crash Course Books
This book is getting a ton of hype online so I hope it lives up to it. I’m unfamiliar with the publisher so not sure what kind of book to expect. We shall see!
Mood Machine: The Rise of Spotify and the Costs of the Perfect Playlist
By Liz Pelly
Published January 2025 from Atria/One Signal Publishers
Spotify is the go to, and again, I love business and tech history. I’ve read about all the other major social platforms. Excited to learn from this one.
The Greatest of All Plagues: How Economic Inequality Shaped Political Thought from Plato to Marx
By David Lay Williams
Published September 2024 from Princeton University Press
Okay this one came out in the fall, but I just came across it. I’m always interested to learn more about politics from a historical standpoint and this looks great.
