Another month, another batch of books that will go on my TBR list hoping to be plucked from the list to make it to the giant stacks of books on my floor, one step closer to actually being read. This month we have women’s issues, private equity, physics, tenure, weather, Detroit, and more!
Happy reading!
Girl on Girl: How Pop Culture Turned a Generation of Women Against Themselves
By Sophie Gilbert
Published April 2025 from Penguin Press
The older I become, the more interested I am in women’s issues, history, and feminism. This book caught my eye – great title and cover – and so it was a quick and easy add to my TBR.
Bad Company: Private Equity and the Death of the American Dream―An Exposé of Private Equity's Devastating Impact on American Lives, Communities, and the Economy
By Megan Greenwell
Published June 2025 from Dey Street Books
So much political commentary diagnosing what the hell is wrong focuses on the “death of the American dream”. This book in particular dives into the role of private equity, which we all know is the boogie man, but I don’t actually know much about its role, so I look forward to learning.
Collisions: A Physicist's Journey from Hiroshima to the Death of the Dinosaurs
By Alec Nevala-Lee
Published June 2025 from W. W. Norton & Company
This biography of Luis W. Alvarez looks so good. From his role in the Manhattan Project to determining what killed the dinosaurs, this book looks like it spans some truly great scientific breakthroughs.
The War on Tenure
By Deepa Das Acevedo
Publishing September 2025 from Cambridge University Press
Tenure for university faculty looks unlikely to survive much longer as state legislatures in red states continue to put of bills to kill it or reduce its protections. But sudden moves always have a longer history. I look forward to reading it later this year.
Stronger: The Untold Story of Muscle in Our Lives
By Michael Joseph Gross
Published March 2025 from Dutton
I always love deep dives into parts of the body. I have a goal to read books about all the major organs, systems, and key aspects of our body. This book on muscle looks like a good add to that group.
Carbon: The Book of Life
By Paul Hawken
Published March 2025 from Viking
I’ve read one book on the role of carbon in our world, as it’s the “stuff of life”, but it was quite dense. This one looks a bit more popular. Besides, it’s been years since I’ve read it so I look forward to this one.
Cloud Warriors: Deadly Storms, Climate Chaos―and the Pioneers Creating a Revolution in Weather Forecasting
By Thomas E. Weber
Published June 2025 from St. Martin’s Press
I’m quite the weather nerd and always dreamed of being a meteorologist growing up. It’s not often you see books on weather forecasting so I’m super pumped about this one.
The Containment: Detroit, the Supreme Court, and the Battle for Racial Justice in the North
By Michelle Adams
Published January 2025 from Farrar, Straus and Giroux
I love reading books on the history of Detroit. It’s such a fascinating city – and arguably the coolest city in the US right now. This is a big book that I look forward to getting into.
