As someone who loves reading the latest books, the new year is often spent catching up last year’s books still on my TBR pile. But the new year is coming and that means another year of too many great books and not enough time to actually read them all.
As a special year end post, here are eight books on my TBR list that come out in early 2023. Happy reading and happy new year!

Starstruck: A Memoir of Astrophysics and Finding Light in the Dark
By Sarafina Nance
Coming June 6, 2023 from Dutton
I’ve followed Nance on twitter for a few years and love her content, and am curious to hear more about her story. I love memoirs, and especially memoirs of women scientists (see my book list of remarkable women). This one is so new for pre-order, there’s not even a cover yet!
Awe: The New Science of Everyday Wonder and How It Can Transform Your Life
By Dacher Keltner
Coming January 3, 2023 from Penguin Press
This is a book I’m judging by its cover because it’s obviously beautiful! On a content note, awe is a topic I know little about scientifically, but feel often when I escape deep into nature in the summer to hike and camp. Curious to learn more.
Culture: The Story of Us, From Cave Art to K-Pop
By Martin Pucher
Coming February 7, 2023 from W. W. Norton
This is another gorgeous cover! But what a cool topic as well. I’m anticipating a fascinating world tour of cultural evolution, history, and amazing knowledge. An especially apt book at a time when the humanities are suffering a PR crisis in America.
How Not to Kill Yourself: A Portrait of the Suicidal Mind
By Clancy Martin
Coming March 28, 2023 from Pantheon
This is a memoir that I am expecting to be raw and authentic. Suicide and severe depression are things that cannot be fully understood unless you’ve had such experiences, and I’m curious to learn more of Martin’s experience.
The Human Evolutionary Transition: From Animal Intelligence to Culture
By Magnus Enquist, Stefano Ghirlanda, and Johan Lind
Coming February 28, 2023 from Princeton University Press
I have an interest in reading more about cultural evolution and history in 2023. This book seems to promise to be an informative read of the subject, and answer a provocative question as to why human-level intelligence is not seen in other earth species.
Psych: The Story of the Human Mind
By Paul Bloom
Coming February 28, 2023 from Ecco
This was a no brainer since I’m guaranteed to read any book Bloom publishes. It’s safe to say that I’m excited about this one, and curious given its length relative to Bloom’s other books.
Planta Sapiens: The New Science of Plant Intelligence
By Paco Calvo and Natalie Lawrence
Coming March 14, 2023 from W. W. Norton
The lives of plants are far more complex and interesting than most give them credit for. This book promises to be a science tour of the latest research on plant intelligence, from communication to manipulation of other species.
Assyria: The Rise and Fall of the World’s First Empire
By Eckard Frahm
Coming April 4, 2023 from Basic Books
I came across this one through a recommendation from Xavier after receiving an advanced copy. Sometimes I have reservations of pure history of this sort, but it sounds like a great read, and it being published by Basic Books gives me confidence that I’m going to enjoy this one.

These all sound very fascinating!
The list keeps growing evermore.
Did you see there are TWO books about AWE this month?!🤔
